The anchorage
Pampelonne
Five kilometres of pale sand and shallow warm water, and the best of it is the part you can only reach by boat.
Pampelonne runs down the east side of the peninsula at Ramatuelle, twenty minutes from Saint-Tropez: pale sand, water that stays shallow and warm a long way out, and no rock anywhere under the boat. Anchor a hundred metres off and the whole beach is in front of you.
Lunch is laid on the aft deck with the sand a swim away, the seabobs go in off the platform, and the afternoon runs as long as the light does. When the beach fills, you are the ones with the quiet end of it.
The captain reads the morning and picks the side of the bay the wind is not on. If it is not right on the day, we go somewhere that is.
